Biography
Sean Edmund Rogers is Dean of the URI College of Business and the Alfred J. Verrecchia-Hasbro Inc. Leadership Chair in Business. He is also a Professor of Management. Prior to being named Dean, he served as URI’s Chief Diversity Officer and Vice President of Community, Equity, and Diversity. Rogers joined the College of Business in 2018 as the Spachman Professor of Human Resources and Labor Relations, and has held several roles in the College, including Executive Director of Inclusive Excellence, Director of the Charles T. Schmidt Jr. Labor Research Center, Director of graduate programs in healthcare management, and Director of graduate programs in human resources and labor relations.
Before joining URI, he held faculty appointments at Cornell University, New Mexico State University, and University of New Mexico. His current research interests include unions and labor-management relations, employment discrimination and workplace diversity, and volunteerism. He earned a Ph.D. in industrial relations and human resources from Rutgers University and master’s degrees from Wake Forest School of Law, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) as well as a Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
Prior to academia, Professor Rogers worked in the airline and logistics industries. His corporate experience includes positions in industrial engineering, finance, pricing, network planning, and schedule planning at US Airways, America West Airlines, ATA Airlines, AirTran Airways, and UPS. Additionally, from 2000-2008 he served in the US Army Reserve as an enlisted soldier and non-commissioned officer, to include an active duty combat tour in 2003 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He currently serves as a Medical Service Corps (healthcare administration) officer in the US Air Force Reserve.
