Dr. Beckman is the Vangermeersch Professor of Accounting and Area Coordinator of the COB’s accounting area. She earned her PhD from Texas Tech University and joined the URI College of Business in 1992. Dr. Beckman undertakes research in accounting and finance based on issues in financial reporting and capital markets, served as an editorial board member for the Journal of International Accounting, Auditing and Taxation, and writes a weekly newsletter for The Wall Street Journal Accounting Weekly Review. From 2014-2016, she was the Academic Fellow in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Office of the Chief Accountant. 

At URI, she previously served as Associate Dean of the Graduate School and co-chaired the university’s regional reaccreditation by the New England Associate of School and Colleges in 2007. Dr. Beckman will concurrently continue as Area Coordinator of accounting while serving as Associate Dean.
