This fall, Faculty Office Hour is partnering with the College of Business in honor of its 100th anniversary to explore the Future of Work.
Financial technology, or FinTech, is dramatically changing how money and capital are transferred, raised, and invested. But what is FinTech? Spend an hour with Assistant Professor of Finance Zafer Yüksel, who will briefly define FinTech and its major components, explain how blockchain technologies, which power the thousands of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, are changing the way we pay for goods and services today, and how these technologies will impact the future of currency.
Donna Gamache-Griffiths, J.D., Ph.D., associate teaching professor and coordinator of the International Business Program (IBP), will serve as moderator for the discussion.
Professor Yüksel recently joined the College of Business faculty in URI’s new FinTech program. His research interests focus on empirical asset pricing, institutional investors, and mutual funds, with recent projects primarily focused on the market frictions and trading behavior of mutual fund managers. His research has been published numerous financial journals. He holds a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Arizona, an M.B.A. from California State University, San Bernardino, and a B.S. in electrical and electronics engineering from Middle East Technical University.
