The class pushed me to assess my strengths and weaknesses in a way that I hadn’t done before, offering a deeper understanding of myself and my career path. By identifying what I’m truly passionate about and where I need to grow, I feel more focused and motivated to pursue my goals. Without ITR and the CCEE, I would have never had the opportunity to intern at REGENT and receive a full time offer for post grad!

FAQ’s:

What is ITR?

ITR is the Internship Program that is facilitated through the Center for Career and Experiential Education where students have the opportunity to gain academic credit (through free elective credits) for completing an internship.

What are the ITR requirements?

Students need to have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA, be in good academic and social standing at the University and have completed a minimum of 60 credits prior to enrolling in ITR.

How do I apply?

Students must have an internship secured prior to applying. Students can apply by completing the google form on the homepage of this website.

What internships are eligible for this course?

Students need to be accepted into a quality learning experience with a supervisor and organization that can guide, mentor and support them through their internship experience.

Can I do an internship without earning credit for it?

You sure can! You don’t have to earn credit for your internships – but if you choose to take a course, it will offer you an advocate in terms of professional development, academic support, and career development preparation for your next role.

Do I have to take a class in order to earn credits for my internship?

Yes. Students need to be enrolled in ITR prior to the start of their internship and semester to gain ITR credit.

Do you place students in internship opportunities?

The ITR Internship Program does not serve as a placement program; we do not match you to an internship site based upon your preferences, nor do we find an internship for you.  We are more than happy to provide you internship search strategies to assist you with your search.  Students can search and apply to internships on Handshake, URI’s internship and job database.  Employers who post on Handshake are specifically looking to hire URI students and graduates since the database is only accessible to those students. More search resources can be found on Career Resources: A-Z and Career Resources: By Major. You can also Meet with a Career Education Specialist for assistance.

When does ITR run?

Fall, Spring and Summer semesters.

When do students apply to ITR?

Up to one semester prior to the start of the internship. The deadline to apply is usually the start of the semester.

What does the application and review process look like?

Students and internship supervisors complete a google form which is reviewed and approved by the team of Career Education Specialists.

Is ITR the only option for credit?

No. Students can complete internship credit through their degree granting college/major.

What qualifies as an internship? Can a part time job or volunteer opportunity qualify?

An opportunity is considered an internship when it provides students with intentional learning objectives that are structured into the experience and supervised by a professional with relevant and related background in the field. Internships promote a student’s academic, career, and/or personal development as well as industry related and soft skill development. Elements of an internship include learning objectives, observation, reflection, and evaluation.
