Thirty-seven Portsmouth High School students got the chance to see practical applications of what they are learning in a recent visit to the plant and biotechnology lab of Albert Kausch, URI professor of cell and molecular biology. Along with the tour, the students visited the University’s medicinal gardens.

Senior Spotlight: Sofia Piccone (Marine Biology)

“I chose CELS because of the close knit environment in the cell and molecular biology department,” Johanyx Rodriguez says. “I loved the size of the department, and I felt comfortable with reaching out to professors. The research in CELS is so diverse–ranging from using molecular techniques in oysters to investigating the mechanisms behind neurodegeneration!”
