Employment opportunities in the agricultural and related sciences are growing, but the number of qualified college graduates is not. Funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, the URI Cultivating Change Multicultural Scholars Program (CATCH-MSP) seeks to increase enrollment in URI’s undergraduate programs in the agricultural and food sciences by students from diverse backgrounds.
Benefits of Program
$6,500/year scholarship for four years for tuition, room and board, and education-related expenses; opportunity to work on an independent research project with a faculty mentor; participate in a paid summer research fellowship; receive individualized academic support and career counseling, including mentoring by industry leaders.

Eligibility: Anyone with a strong interest in pursuing a career as a food or agricultural professional or scientist. Students may enroll in undergraduate programs including Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems, Animal Science & Technology, Aquaculture & Fisheries Science, Cell and Molecular Biology, Environmental Science & Management, Marine Affairs, and Plant Sciences. Eligible candidates
- Current undergraduate student in good standing with the University,
- are U.S. citizens/permanent residents,
- have not been previously enrolled in a bachelor’s program in the agricultural or related sciences, and
- are from a group underrepresented in those sciences.
