Animal Science Major Kylie Mastropolo on Interning with Buttonwood Park Zoo April 30, 2025 - Kylie Mastropolo, an animal science and technology major, pursued an internship at Buttonwood Park Zoo this semester. “One of the most rewarding parts was observing the harbor seals over time and learning to identify their individual personalities and behavioral patterns,” she says.
Senior Spotlight: Lindsey Reimels (Marine Biology) April 30, 2025 - Marine Biology major Lindsey Reimels has been active in a variety of research projects at URI, including microplastic accumulation in Narragansett Bay and the uptake of microplastic ingestion by baleen whales. 
Tour of URI plant and biotechnology lab an eye-opener for high school students April 29, 2025 - Thirty-seven Portsmouth High School students got the chance to see practical applications of what they are learning in a recent visit to the plant and biotechnology lab of Albert Kausch, URI professor of cell and molecular biology. Along with the tour, the students visited the University's medicinal gardens.

Understanding how animals behave and what influences their behavior are crucial components of conservation efforts.

Beach to observe sediment transport, and more. 
Senior Spotlight: Johanyx Rodriguez (Cell and Molecular Biology) April 22, 2025 - "I chose CELS because of the close knit environment in the cell and molecular biology department," Johanyx Rodriguez says. "I loved the size of the department, and I felt comfortable with reaching out to professors. The research in CELS is so diverse--ranging from using molecular techniques in oysters to investigating the mechanisms behind neurodegeneration!"
