Student ID and RIPTA Passes

New and updated student IDs are issued from the Office of Academic and Student Affairs in room 245.

Student ID Cards

You must be a registered student to get an ID. A damaged or expired URI ID will be replaced for registered students free of charge provided you submit your old card. For lost or stolen ID cards, a replacement fee of $20 will be assessed. ID cards can also be obtained in the Memorial Union on the Kingston campus.

RIPTA Bus Passes

All students, faculty, and staff are eligible to purchase a 50% discounted RIPTA Wave pass or 50% discounted day pass, available at the Campus Store, in the lower level of the Memorial Union. The Wave is RIPTA’s new smart fare collection system. It’s a convenient way for passengers to ride RIPTA with either a smart card or their smartphone. You can reload your Wave smart card or set up a new account with a $5 activation fee and receive a new Wave smart card.

Payment can be made with cash, credit card or Ram Card. Students may use the Ram Account Kiosk machine by the Dining and ID Office in the Memorial Union to put cash on their Ram Card for use for purchasing. A University ID is required to make a purchase. Discounted passes cannot be purchased for use by others or for resale.

Frequent RIPTA service is available. Bus route 66 provide service to and from Providence (including the train station) to URI; route 64 links the Bay and Kingston campuses with Newport and connects to route 60, which serves the East Bay from Providence to Newport; route Route 69 was recently added to continue service between URI and South Kingstown/Narragansett.
