Chinese Language Flagship Program
Student Employment
The Chinese Language Flagship programs offers regular student employment opportunities to help make your education more enriching and affordable.
Chinese Tutor
Tutor beginning-level Flagship students. Tutors usually work 5-10 hours per week.
Qualifications:
- OPI: Advanced Low or above
- Reading: Intermediate High or above
- Listening: Intermediate High or above
- Latest course grade in Chinese needs to be an A- or above
- Proven commitment to the URI Chinese Flagship Program and learning Chinese
- Excellent work ethic
Compensation: Hourly
Application process: Applications for work for the following term open at the end of each semester. Flagship staff will send out emails asking all interested to apply online.
Resident Academic Mentor (RAM)
Serve as a live-in mentor for freshmen in Chinese Living and Learning Community.
Qualifications:
- Must be sophomore or above
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Be able to work an average of 12.5 hours per week
- Be able to training activities and programs during the year
- Be willing to live in assigned LLC residence
- Demonstrate dedication to the URI Chinese Flagship Program
Compensation: Waiver for the cost of housing
Application process: Submit an application through URI’s Housing Services website.
- Submit application in December
- Interview with Housing Services and Chinese Faculty in January/February
- Decision released in March

Flagship Student Ambassador
Help promote and represent Chinese Flagship Program to partners and potential students and families.
- Has an overall GPA of at least 3.0
- Must be at least a sophomore Chinese Flagship student. Experience abroad in China and/or Taiwan is a plus.
- Has shown dedication to the Chinese Flagship Program
- Must have strong interpersonal skills
- Must be willing to participate in Ambassador training
Compensation: Hourly
