Each year at the end of August, the Chinese Language Flagship Program runs a five-day orientation to help incoming Flagship students get a jump start on their Chinese studies, meet their new classmates and teachers, and become familiar with campus.
All incoming Flagship students in CHN 111(H) and freshmen students enrolled in CHN 211 are strongly encouraged to participate.
Orientation generally consists of ice-breakers, intensive Chinese classes, and cultural activities. Students are expected to attend each class and activity get used to a Chinese-only environment. They have the option of moving into their dorm early at a discounted rate. Students who live in the area but do not plan to live on-campus are asked to commute to orientation. Meals will be provided free of cost to both on-campus residents and commuters until dining halls open.
