Resit Sendag, Ph.D.

Resit Sendag is Professor and Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. He specializes in the broad area of computer architecture. His research interests include microprocessor architecture; multicore processors; AI hardware accelerators; cache and memory hierarchies; memory scheduling techniques; non-volatile memories; application-specific hardware design; energy-efficient design and processing; and high-performance computing. He teaches computer architecture and Generative AI courses at URI, including a Generative AI course he recently developed that enrolls students with broad backgrounds from five different colleges. He also serves as a consultant in patent infringement cases.

Prof. Sendag received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (2003), his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Cukurova University (1997) and his B.S. in Electronics Engineering from Hacettepe University (1994). He was a research intern with IBM’s Future Processor Performance group before joining URI in November 2003. He served as Director of Graduate Studies from 2020 to 2026, became Department Chair in July 2026, and directs the URI ECE Generative AI Development Team.

We welcome motivated graduate and undergraduate students. Strong candidates typically have solid C/C++ programming skills, coursework in computer architecture or digital design, and an interest in simulation, FPGA/GPU programming, or AI hardware and tools.
