Kate Butler’s Retirement

Kate Butler formally joined the Coastal Resources Center (CRC) in 2005. While at CRC, Kate worked as the Coordinator for the U.S. Field Programs. Kate managed all aspects of the U.S. Coastal Program finances including proposal and budget development, financial projections, tracking and reporting, purchasing, travel coordination and personnel. Kate provided administrative support and assistance to project managers, fund directors, and collaborative partners. She was also a key member of the Ocean SAMP (Special Area Management Plan) team and served as the financial and administrative coordinator. She provided data management assistance and expertise to directors and principal investigators in the areas of budget preparation, forecasting, accounts payable, and reporting.

During her time as CRC’s Coordinator for the U.S. Field Programs Kate has brought her keen financial management skills to bear on the work of CRC’s U.S. Team, and significantly contributed to the overall fiscal and organizational health of the center as a whole. Kate is recognized by her CRC colleagues as possessing an unparalleled talent for naming projects with snappy acronyms or taglines, such as the “Get A GRIP!” (Green & Resilient Infrastructure Program) and “What’s SCUP?!?”. Also, “Trust Your Swing” is a Kate staple as the U.S. Team moved through difficult projects with many moving parts.

Additionally, Kate is known to her colleagues as a superb listener and guide, an inspiration for health and well-being, and an energetic and caring friend to all. These traits are always behind her drive to help others, especially her trademark effort to conduct a yearly clothing and gift guide, in concert with local retailer Crosswynds Traders, for the Johnnycake Center in Peacedale. Overall, Kate has personally touched the lives of many of our CRC colleagues and partners and we wish her all the best as she embarks on a golf-filled retirement. We know that she will enjoy spending time with friends and family, especially her toddler grandson! Best wishes and love to Kate from all of us at CRC!
