This is an opportunity to attend the world’s largest gathering of women in technology – the Grace Hopper Celebration. It will be held in Orlando, FL, Sept. 29 – Oct. 2, 2020. The Department of Computer Science and Statistics will be able to send several students to the event, covering all registration, travel and food expenses for the trip. In previous years we have sent between 4 and 6 students.
You can find out more about the Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) here:
If you are interested in applying to attend representing URI, please fill out the application form here:
This will ask you a few short questions, and you will have an opportunity to explain why you would like to attend.
In addition to the department’s support for this trip, GHC provides scholarships for students to attend. Anyone who applies for our support should also apply for the GHC Scholarship. This will allow us to send as many students as possible. You can find the GHC Scholarship application information here:
The deadline to apply for this scholarship is March 4, so make sure to apply soon if you are interested.
This is NOT just for students with the best grades. It is for any woman who wants to participate in a truly remarkable event where you will be able to:
– Meet and network with other women with similar interests
– Attend a large career fair where the biggest tech companies, and small ones too, have booths and representatives to talk with you about internships and jobs
– Hear talks by world-renowned speakers. In past years the speakers have included: Melinda Gates (co-Chair Gates Foundation), Ginni Rometty (CEO IBM), Sylvia Acevedo (CEO Girl Scouts), Sheryl Sandberg (COO Facebook).
– Attend presentations on topics on everything from “AI for Social Good” to “So You Want to Be an Entrepreneur”
We want to make this available to as many women as possible. Every student who has gone in previous years has come back inspired!
If you would like to talk to others who have attended, here is a list of some of the URI women who went to GHC in previous years:
