Types of Swipes

There are several ways to pay for services at Dining locations. Make sure you understand what’s included with your plan to maximize your benefits! (Retail Outlet purchase: make sure you specify when you want to use Grab-n-Go or Ram Account for your purchase.)

• Unlimited Plan swipes: for use at our Dining Halls only
• Grab-n-Go swipes: for use at our Retail Outlets only
• Flex Plan swipes: for use at Dining Halls and Retail Outlets
• Ram Account: receive a 10% discount off the cash price at all Dining Services facilities. It is also accepted all over campus and with some off-campus vendor too.
• Cash: all items and entrances fees are available for cash payments
• Credit: all items and entrances fees are available for cash payments

Which Plan is Right for Me?

• Campus Residents (HRL)*: Must select from the Unlimited Plan options. *Those living in Brookside Hall, Garrahy Hall, University Gateway Apartments, & Wiley Hall may choose from Unlimited or Flex Plans. If no selection is made by the deadline, the default meal plan will be assigned and added to your campus bill.
• Commuters: Are encouraged to select from any plan type.
• Greek Housing Residents: Are encouraged to select from any plan type.
• Staff & Faculty: May select from any plan type.

Unlimited Plans Spring’22

Unlimited Standard, Plus, and Complete Plans provide unlimited entrances to Butterfield Dining Hall and Mainfare Dining Hall for all-you-care-to-eat, build-your-own-meal options. Daily menus, hours of operation and more can be found on each location’s page. In addition, Grab-n-Go swipes included with the Plus and Complete Plans allow for additional dining options only at our Retail Outlets around campus for items marked as “Grab-n-Go”. You can find a list of Grab-n-Go’s by location here! (Please note: Grab-n-Go swipes are allotted weekly, and reset on Friday at 3am. You can redeem up to (8) Grab-n-Go swipes in a single day, and they can be used for your guests too). Unlimited Plans are best for anyone spending most of their time on-campus. Dining Halls are your primary resource for food, and Retail Outlet Grab-n-Go options meant to supplementing Dining hall visits (not replace them). Your Ram Account offers even more flexibility, and purchases made with it at Dining Services receive a 10% discount off the cash prices. Meal plan pricing is per semester.

Flex Plans Spring’22

Flexible swipes that you can use to enter our Dining Halls (2 swipes) for all-you-care-to-eat dining options, or for Retail Outlet’s Grab-n-Go’s options (1 or 2 swipes per GnG option as marked). Grab-n-Go are pre-defined meals/snack available only at out Retail outlets. You can find a list of Grab-n-Go’s by location here! Best for those with limited time on campus, or residents with private kitchens a who plan to cook a portion of their own meals. Plan prices are per semester.

What is Ram Account?

It’s a debit account built into every valid URI ID card, and most meal plans come with pre-loaded Ram Account funds (which are billed through your campus billing). Add additional funds at any time online, by phone, or through our kiosks. Use it all around campus, for food to books and so much more. Dozens of off-campus retailer accept it too Find out more.

Things to Remember:

• Meal plans and benefits are non-transferable.
• Unlimited Plan holders: “unlimited entrances” are non-transferable. Must use biometric scanning for each entrance.
• Flex Plans: (2) swipes for Dining Hall per entrance, any meal session.
• Guest meals: Unlimited Plans holders and Flex Plan holders may bring guests with them to a Dining Hall. Both plan types require the use of (2) Grab-n-Go swipes for any meal session for your guest. Plan holder must be present and enter the Dining Hall too.
• All Plans types: Grab-n-Go* options within posted cash price ($7.00-$10.50) = (1) GnG swipe
• All Plans types: Grab-n-Go* options within posted cash price ($10.51-$14.50) = (2) GnG swipes
• Unlimited and GnG swipes are types of tender, for use only during active meal plan periods as defined in your contract. They are not pre-purchased meals, and have no cash value.
• All Unlimited Plans benefits expire at the end of the current semester. Swipes do not rollover. No refunds for unused swipes.
• Flex Plan swipes rollover from Fall to Spring only, then expire on Commencement Weekend annually. No refunds for unused swipes.
• Services offered and hours of operation are subject to change.

*Grab-n-Go’s are pre-defined options. You can not build your own Grab-n-Go.

Dining Services makes every effort to provide an array of nutritious and freshly prepared foods for our customers, encompassing a wide variety of options, service times, and culinary styles. Food items, provisions, supplies, staffing, utilities, and additional operational costs are allocated based on annual meal plan contracts. Early cancellation directly impacts these costs.

Meal Plan Cancelation Policy

Living with HRL on-campus?

Visit E-Campus > My Housing Portal > HRL Online Cancellation Request Form to submit a request for Housing and Dining. No cancellations will be granted if the student remains registered in a residence hall that requires a Meal Plan. The official Housing cancellation date (not the submission date of cancellation request) will dictate the cancellation assessment by both HRL and Dining Services. Fees will be assessed by the following schedules.

Living off-campus, in Greek housing, or in non-HRL facility?

You must submit an email requesting your cancelation, including your current meal plan, reason for cancelation, and contact information to Campus ID & Dining Office for consideration by the University.

Meal Plan fees will be assessed by the following schedules:

Unlimited Meal Plans Cancelation Fees (Fall & Spring Semesters):

• Week 1: 10% Fall fees charged
• Week 2: 20% Fall fees charged
• Week 3: 30% Fall fees charged
• Week 4: 40% Fall fees charged
• Week 5: 50% Fall fees charged
• Week 6: 60% Fall fees charged
• Week 7: 70% Fall fees charged
• Week 8: 80% Fall fees charged
• Week 9 and after: 100% of Fall fees charged (no refund)
• Any used portion of the initial Ram Account balance (funds that came with your plan) will be assessed to the student. Additional/remaining Ram Account funds may be refunded after withdrawal from the University.

Flex Meal Plan Cancelation Fees:

• Fall and Spring semester refunds are based on actual usage during weeks 1-8. No refunds week 9* or after. Any used portion of the initial Ram Account balance (funds that came with your plan) will be assessed to the student. Additional/remaining Ram Account funds may be refunded after withdrawal from the University. (*J-Term and Summer Plans: actual usage.)

I'm Ready to Purchase a Spring'22 Plan!

Please purchase or change your plan selection by February 4, 2022… for changes simply make a new purchase and it will update/replace any current selection. (Changes will be reflected in your campus bill usually within 7-10 days.)
