In our increasingly interconnected global world, educators encounter classrooms more diverse than ever before. To address this new reality, the College of Education will offer a new Global Education Studies minor in Fall 2024, where students will explore globalization of education and educational policies, using the critical lens of equity and social justice, human rights, global citizenship, and learn the skills to become education leaders in today’s globalized world.
The Global Education Studies minor curriculum is focused on expanding students’ knowledge, skills, and understanding of specific comparative and international theories, concepts, and practices in education. The coursework also includes a requirement for participation in one of the College of Education’s study abroad programs in education or equivalent international experience.
“These initiatives afford students the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of world languages and cultures, while engaging in global community experiences, histories, socio-economic perspectives, and cross-cultural comparison to the United States,” said Rabia Hos, associate professor of TESOL/Bilingual-Dual Language Education.
Students from all majors are welcome to participate or take courses in the Global Education Studies minor, particularly students interested in pursuing careers in K-16 education outside of the U.S., governmental and non-governmental organizations, international agencies, or to further their studies of international issues.
“Students can globalize their education degrees through innovative curriculum and studying abroad,” said Colleen Rossignol, coordinator of Global Education and Partnerships.
