Message From The Dean

As dean of the Feinstein College of Education, I am proud to lead our inspiring students, staff, and faculty, and proud to share their accomplishments with you, the friends of our college.

This edition of Educators and Innovators honors and celebrates many in our educational community.

We honor Rose Butler Browne, the first Black woman to graduate from URI. Rose Butler Browne was once referred to as a “pioneer in Black education.” After graduating from URI, in 1921, Browne went on to a 47-year teaching career.

Alumna Heidi Burke Cianfarani, who has been an educator in Warwick for more than 30 years, is honored for her generous endowment of a scholarship for students pursuing an education degree.

We celebrate our students and alumni for their award-winning work in K-12 and higher education. And we celebrate two faculty members, Dr. Shane Tutwiler and Dr. Nicole King, for their recent publications, highlighted in our Theory In Practice series.

Education is on the precipice of significant changes. As we navigate this evolving landscape, the University of Rhode Island remains committed to our Foundational Values and the Feinstein College of Education is steadfast in our Ethos.
