Message from the Dean

Dear Friends,

This past year has been marked by numerous achievements and significant growth for the Feinstein College of Education, as well as resilience in the face of uncertainty. We’ve seen incredible strides in education research partnerships, student involvement and achievement, and alumni support, and I am immensely proud of the positive impact we’ve made within the university and throughout the state.

Through Sara Sweetman’s continuing alliance with PBS KIDS television, the College helped celebrate the National Science Foundation’s 75th anniversary with a family- friendly event on campus to inspire future scientists, that included visits from characters and creators from popular PBS KIDS shows. Dr. Sweetman is also a leading research contributor to the new WEATHER HUNTERS animated series from Al Roker, Emmy-winning weatherman and host of the TODAY show, that will foster learning of Earth science and meteorology through adventure and comedy.

In this issue of Educators and Innovators, you’ll also read how Dr. Gholnecsar Muhammad, a leading voice in culturally and historically responsive education and this year’s Finklestein lecture keynote, implements genius, justice and joy into curriculum, along with an article on how student mentors support incoming freshman in innovative ways that is an inspiration to all educators.

We are also excited to introduce our new master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy this fall that is geared for working professionals who want to become school leaders who will navigate today’s complex educational landscape.

As we look forward to the next academic year, let’s carry forward the values of collaboration, innovation, and excellence that define our College, and make us the College that graduates the most teacher candidates in Rhode Island.

Best Regards,

DEAN
