Modality and Pacing Options

Courses are offered fully online through the asynchronous platform, Brightspace. Each week, instructors host live optional office hours through Zoom. Each course is approximately 45 hours of instructional time, and courses are divided into weekly modules to pace content delivery and assignment completion. 

Educators can choose from four options to complete the plan of study based on their preferred pacing and start date: 

One-Year Pacing (Summer Required) 

Option 1: Academic Year (September–July)
Educators start in the fall

  • Fall Semester: EDC 420/533 – Second Language Acquisition and Assessment 
  • Spring Semester: EDC 501 – Sociocultural Foundations of Multilingual Education 
  • Summer Session 1: EDC 563 – Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Pedagogy 
  • Summer Session 2: EDC 515 – Integrated Content and Language Instruction and Assessment 

Option 2: Calendar Year (January–December)
Educators start in the spring

  • Spring Semester: EDC 501 – Sociocultural Foundations of Multilingual Education 
  • Summer Session 1: EDC 563 – Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Pedagogy 
  • Summer Session 2: EDC 515 – Integrated Content and Language Instruction and Assessment 
  • Fall Semester: EDC 420/533 – Second Language Acquisition and Assessment 

Two-Year Pacing (Summer NOT Required) 

Option 3: Two Academic Years (September–July) 
Educators start in the fall

  • Year 1, Fall: EDC 420/533 – Second Language Acquisition and Assessment 
  • Year 1, Spring: EDC 501- Sociocultural Foundations of Multilingual Education 
  • Year 2, Fall: EDC 515- Integrated Content and Language Instruction and Assessment 
  • Year 2, Spring: EDC 563- Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Pedagogy 

Option 4: Two Calendar Years (January–December) 
Educators start in the spring

  • Year 1, Spring: EDC 563- Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Pedagogy 
  • Year 1, Fall: EDC 420/533 – Second Language Acquisition and Assessment 
  • Year 2, Spring: EDC 501- Sociocultural Foundations of Multilingual Education
