Chrissy Johansen

Biography

Chrissy Johansen is an Assistant Professor of Elementary Education in the College of Education at URI. Chrissy specializes in inclusive practices, literacy instruction, and social-emotional learning. With 20 years of experience in PreK–12 education, she has served in a range of roles including special education teacher, literacy specialist, behavioral interventionist, and educational consultant.

Her professional focus centers on adult-first mindset, autism, literacy, social-emotional learning, and creating equitable learning environments for all students.

Chrissy holds a Bachelor’s degree in special education and elementary education from Rhode Island College and a Master’s degree in Reading from the University of Rhode Island. Due to her love of learning, Chrissy also has a graduate certificate in Dyslexia from the University of Rhode Island and Assessment and Treatment of Trauma of Child and Adolescents from Rhode Island College. She is deeply committed to learning and enjoys spending her time attending professional development and reading anything related to education.
