Ducha Hang

Biography

Ducha Hang currently serves as the Associate Vice President for Student Services at Rhode Island College and is a member of the leadership team within the Division of Student Success. In this role, Dr. Hang oversees the academic support services departments, including the Office of Academic Advising, New Student Programs, the Center for Scholar Development (TRIO Programs), the Career Development Center, and the Academic Success Center.

Prior to her work at Rhode Island College, Ducha served in several roles, including Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs/Director of First Year Experience and Assistant Vice President for Student Development at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. Dr. Hang has approximately 18 years of experience as a higher education administrator, and her roles have encompassed areas in the first-year experience, academic advising, academic coaching, curriculum and program development, assessment, student success and engagement, and leadership development. As once a first-generation college student herself, Dr. Hang is committed to ensuring access and success of all students in college.

Ducha is Hmong-American and a native of Providence, Rhode Island. She enjoys exploring new restaurants, spending quality time with her family and fiancé, and staying active. Ducha earned a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities with a minor in Asian Studies and a Master’s Degree in Education and School Counseling both from Providence College. In May of 2015, she received her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College. Her dissertation was a phenomenological study of the experiences of Hmong students in college and detailed how Hmong students made sense of their experiences in college.
