Q: How do I submit a service request to Facilities?

A: You can submit a request using the work order request form here. You can also call the Control Center at 874-4060, or email mcc@etal.uri.edu.

Q: Who do I call about Pest Control?

A: Call a work order into the Control Center at 874-4060.

Q: How do I obtain a key or a lock change?

A: Door lock and key services are provided through the Access Control shop within our Maintenance department. Call a work order into the Control Center at 874-4060. Please note that keys are a chargeable item for faculty, staff and administrators and require an IVPO that should be sent to the Control Center. The cost is $5 per duplicate key and the IVPO is payable to URI_FAC. Please include the key number (if you know it), the space it should unlock, and to whom and where they should be delivered.

Q: Who maintains the temperature in my building?

Temperature control is provided through the HVAC shop within our Maintenance department. Most adjustments are made remotely from Building Automation computers located in the Sherman Building. When remote adjustments or corrections are not possible, staff provides the needed service at the specific location of the abnormal temperature. To report a temperature problem, call our Control Center at 874-4060.

Q: Who do I call when there is a maintenance emergency?

Maintenance emergencies during normal working hours (M-F, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) are handled through our Control Center at 4-4060. Emergencies that occur during evenings, weekends, or holidays must be reported to the University Police Department at 874-2121. The Police Department will contact the appropriate staff to respond.

Q: How do I obtain a sign for an Office/Room/Building?

A: Submit a work order request and the request will be routed to the appropriate group depending on your signage needs.

Q: What is the difference between ‘Maintenance’ and ‘Chargeable’ work?

A: Routine maintenance service is provided to most campus buildings at no cost to the building users. Examples of routine maintenance are changing light bulbs, repairing dripping faucets, or changing air filters on heating/air conditioning systems. Examples of chargeable or non-routine work are installing an additional electrical outlet, re-keying an office door, or specialized cleaning.

Q: What is the expected turnaround time for service requests?

A: Turnaround time for service requests can vary widely depending upon the nature of the request and the current workload within the responsible Facilities Operations department. Emergency requests such as an overflowing toilet or a problem that could affect the safety or health of building occupants are handled the same day they are reported. Routine requests may take several days or weeks and are prioritized on a first-in, first-out basis and degree of urgency.

Q: Who do I call about snow and/or ice removal?

A: Facilities Operations Landscape & Grounds and Custodial Services personnel handle campus snow removal. Efforts to remove snow and ice begin (day or night) as frozen precipitation begins to fall on campus. To request snow/ice removal or to report an especially hazardous location on campus, contact the Control Center at 874-4060 during daytime hours or the URI Police at 874-4910 at night or on weekends.
