You’ll hear the term “workflow” a lot in the context of curricular approvals and using Kuali. The workflow is the step-by-step path a proposal takes from submission to final approval. It shows how work gets done in a clear, consistent, and repeatable way.
In Kuali, the workflow follows the University’s official curricular approval process, automatically routing your proposal to the right reviewers and committees in the correct order.
While each College and Department may have slight variations in their workflow based on size or structure, the overall approval process follows this general order:
- Department
- College
- Faculty Senate Curricular Review Committee
- Faculty Senate
Certain curricular items require approval beyond the Faculty Senate.
- Proposals to create or modify majors, degrees, minors, certifications, and specializations require approval by the URI President.
- Proposals to create new majors or degrees require approval by the Board of Trustees after approval by the URI President.
