Study Abroad

Spirituality and religion

Different countries have different views on religion and spirituality. These differing perspectives can play a role on cultural norms, cultural identity, and your experience within a different part of the world. What is considered appropriate or inappropriate behavior in some parts of the world can stem from how heavily religion influences the day to day lives of those who live there.

Things to Consider

  • What is the dominant religion where I intend to travel?
  • Does the country have laws that are based on religion?
  • Can I practice my religion or spiritual beliefs while abroad? Are there accessible churches, temples, or other places of worship?
  • Is it important for me to practice my religion or beliefs while abroad?
  • How does the host country perceive my religious views and/or affiliation?
