Academic Support

A number of University offices offer a variety of resources for graduate students:

  • The Graduate Student Manual offers policies, procedures and guidance for graduate studies and the Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog, information on courses and professors.
  • Look to the Graduate School Calendar for information ranging from orientation to dissertation defense deadlines and graduation eligibility.
  • Disability Services works with students and all units of URI to foster an inclusive, welcoming, and accessible environment.  DSS works with students to support academic success and self-advocacy.
  • The Division of Student Affairs fosters students’ individual and interpersonal development, contributing to their success as learners both in and out of the classroom. We do this by creating a diverse, safe and supportive community. We encourage students to become effective citizens and leaders and to celebrate their achievements and independence.
  • Financial aid is available to qualified students in the form of assistantships, scholarships, fellowships and other awards. View the full list of financial award and funding opportunities.
  • The Graduate Student Association (GSA) is a government body maintained by and for the graduate students of the University with the purpose of enhancing the academic, intellectual, and social opportunities of its members.
  • Graduate Assistants United is the legally recognized bargaining unit for the approximately 600 graduate research and teaching assistants at the University of Rhode Island. GAU is a democratically run organization with the ability to bargain for benefits for all graduate assistants at the University and to protect employment rights as defined by their contractual agreement.
  • Graduate housing is available on and off campus. University Graduate Village comprises 100 apartments used to house graduate students, non-traditional undergraduate students, visiting scholars, postdoctoral fellows and their families.
  • The Office of International Students and Scholars provides assistance with the I-20 and DS-2019 forms and compliance with U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Exchange Visitor Program.
