URI GSA Senator Recruitment Process
Thank you for your interest in becoming a GSA Senator!
At URI, each department elects one Senator for every 20 graduate students. Election methods may vary by department, but the GSA officially recognizes all elected Senators once the Vice President has reviewed and accepted the self-nomination or election results.
Graduate Student Senator Self-Nomination Process:
- Submit the Self-Nomination Form:
- Vice President Review:
The Vice President will review all self-nominations and fill any vacancies within each department. - Approval for 1:20 Ratio:
Self-nominations that align with the department’s 1:20 student-to-senator ratio will receive an approval email, welcoming the student into the Senate. - Election Notification:
If the number of self-nominations exceeds the 1:20 ratio, those students will be notified and directed to their department for an election. The election winner(s) will then receive an approval email.
