In line with national standards, URI Honors is committed to recognizing a wide range of student achievements. To allow students to graduate with Honors we would like to offer students the opportunity to petition to have other learning experiences count towards Honors requirements. These experiences may include, for example: Internships, independent studies, study abroad, etc.
Students will need to provide a detailed explanation for why this course or experience should fulfill the Honors Requirement. For non-credited experiences that you are seeking credit for please note the following: Students must understand that they are petitioning to have their work count for a three-credit honors course. We will reach out to the supervisor or evaluator of the experience to ask two questions: 1) whether the experience was worth three credits in terms of hours and work; and 2) whether, in the supervisor’s/evaluator’s opinion, the student met the learning outcomes set for themselves or set by the experience.
Please fill out the petition form, which will be submitted and reviewed by the Honors Program. Once your review is completed you will be notified of the decision of the Honors Program. If you have any questions please email urihonors@etal.uri.edu
