The request form for early arrival is available now in your URI My Housing portal, under “Housing Forms.”
Early Move-In Dates and Charges
Students who need to arrive before regular move in days may request Early Move-In (September 4-7) for $75/day, billed to your Fall 2026 account in late September. The following are the approved estimated early move-in dates and associated costs, based on previous year’s rate:
- Monday, August 31st: $300
- Tuesday, September 1st: $225
- Wednesday, September 2nd: $150
- Thursday, September 3rd: $75
We will determine your early move-in charges based on the requested date or your arrival date, whichever is earlier. We will add these charges to your Fall term bill. Please pay them in accordance with University billing dates to avoid late fees.
If a URI department or program requests your early arrival, you may qualify for a discounted rate. Please contact your sponsoring department or program in advance to confirm any adjustments.
You can update your form in URI My Housing through August 28th if your arrival plans change.
Important Guidelines and Policies
Early move-in is a privilege, and we expect you to follow these rules:
- Adhere to the 2026-2027 Housing Agreement, HRL Community Policies Addendum, and Housing Cancellation Policy, as found on our website.
- We may remove you from campus immediately for any inappropriate or disruptive behavior until the official move-in date.
- Overnight guests are not allowed during the early move-in period.
ID Card Activation
Your ID card will be activated at 8:00 AM on the day you selected for early move-in. Your ID will allow you access to your residence hall and room.

More detailed instructions will be sent to you when your arrival is confirmed and as we get closer to the start of the fall semester.
Services During Early Move-In
Please be aware that campus services, including housing support, will be limited during the early move-in period.
- Your meal plan will be active as of Friday, September 4th. Before then, you can purchase meals with cash, RAM Account, Visa, or MasterCard. The service hours are on the dining services webpage.
