Housing Availability and Assurance

At the University of Rhode Island (URI), we are committed to providing on-campus housing to our students. We guarantee housing for all incoming first-year and incoming undergraduate transfer students who meet the priority application deadlines. We also guarantee housing for rising sophomores adhering to these deadlines. For rising juniors/seniors, housing opportunities are available based on limited space; these students who apply by the priority deadline will be offered housing via a lottery invite to our room selection process. We encourage all students to apply by our published deadlines to secure housing possibly.

Rising juniors/seniors not invited to Room Selection will be placed on a waiting list. Any unselected rooms remaining after the room selection process concludes will be offered to students in lottery order as space becomes available. Traditionally, HRL has been able to provide a space for all students who were on the original priority waiting list by June. Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who apply after the priority deadline will be placed on a waitlist and offered space as it becomes available after the original priority waiting list is exhausted.

Over the past several years, all students on the waitlist have been accommodated, and we look forward to the addition of our new housing facilities coming online in Fall 2027 and Fall 2028 (link to story).

In addition to the housing provided by Housing and Residential Life, we offer on-campus Greek housing for members of fraternities and sororities, with approximately 600 spaces available. We’re also fortunate to be located in a beautiful coastal community where many students enjoy living near the beaches.
