Why did you choose Kinesiology
I chose Kinesiology because ever since I was in middle school I fell in love with the thought of becoming a physical education teacher. There’s nothing more that I want to do than help students embrace their athletic ability and most importantly develop healthy habits.
What has been the best part of being a part of the Department of Kinesiology at URI
The best part for me was the amount of support and help that the professors and advisers provided me with. The professors in this department take their time out to help their students and make sure they are on the right path to graduate and are learner exactly what they need to know in the future. Another great thing was being able to do my practicum and student teaching. Being out there in the field and actually teaching students has been an amazing experience and has helped me develop as a future PE teacher.
What advice would you like to give to students considering the program in Kinesiology
First I would explain to them that the program has a number of studies and of course it will be challenging because it is graduate school, but it is very doable and to not think they can’t get it done. I would explain to them that they should not be scared because if they ever get stuck and feel like they are struggling the professors will do whatever it is to help them. Secondly I would tell them that the professors are extremely reasonable and will work with them to help them get what they need to get done, and that they are not there to fail them.
What is next for you
I will be moving back to New York to pursue my teaching career. I currently work as a mentor at a group home with kids with ASD.
