B.A. in French

Immersion

One of our ongoing goals at URI is to support an international culture on campus where students can immerse themselves in the French language and francophone cultures and connect with peers from other countries in a relaxed setting. Many of our events are held in the International Engineering House, one of our Living and Learning Community residences.

Native French speakers, professors and students gather weekly for conversation hours.

Weekly French Conversation Hours

Conversation hours, run by student language ambassadors are an important extension of your work in the classroom. The events are welcoming and informal, and often include games or activities to encourage everyone to participate.

French Conversation Buddies

Practice French with a native speaker! Thanks to our many exchange relationships with French universities, we have many francophone students on campus. Our French conversation buddies hold regular conversation hours, where you can converse and hear the language spoken fluently by a peer.

French Language Movie Nights

Movies are a great way to improve your language comprehension and because of France’s tradition of artistic innovation in film, there are always good titles on view.
