 Introduces maritime transportation systems, port operations, and the economic and policy dimensions of shipping.

 This course provides an introduction to the economics of waterborne movement of cargoes and passengers.  Lectures will concentrate on examining shipping and port operations, innovations in maritime transportation systems, environmental implications of the maritime industry and the interplay of the operators, shipping, and ports. Students will develop the ability to identify, access, evaluate, and ethically use information from diverse sources to analyze global shipping and port operations. Students will examine global systems, cultural perspectives, and ethical dimensions of maritime trade to propose sustainable and equitable solutions.
