Maple Sugar

Disclaimer: The findings discussed are lab based and further studies need to be done.

Maple sugar is a natural sweetener made from an over boiling process of maple syrup. It has many health benefits due to a high concentration of compounds, called polyphenols, that are helpful antioxidants for the body.

In comparison, the sugar that is in most of our food called “refined sugar” lacks vitamins, minerals, and other functional nutrient-dense compounds.

A group of scientists at the University of Rhode Island researched the chemical structure and the different components that make up this type of sweetener. It was expected that after the boiling process used to make the maple sugar, the maple syrup would lose some of its properties.

On the contrary, the research found that the properties remained after the boiling process, proving one more time that maple syrup is the smarter sweetener option.
