2022 Annual Science Immersion Workshop for Journalists

2022 Theme: Flooding

The 2022 Annual Workshop explored flooding, a problem that has become increasingly common in coastal and inland settings. We discussed the ways that climate change is affecting the frequency and intensity of flood events, the consequences of flooding, and how communities are adapting. Climate change is a local story happening in the back yards of all news audiences.

The Annual Workshop is designed to help Fellows gain new insights, sources and resources to aid their reporting, expand peer networks with journalists from around the globe, and produce accurate and contextualized reporting on globally relevant environmental issues. Metcalf Fellows will gain a solid foundation in the fundamentals of research practice, climate science, and adaptation measures from leading researchers and policy makers.

The 2022 Workshop was conducted virtually due to ongoing public health concerns about the coronavirus. We met June 1-3 and June 6-10, 2022, during the afternoons of Eastern Daylight Time (approximately 12:30pm-5pm EDT).
