URI also offers several options for students wanting to minor in music.

Auditions are required to minor in Music.

Music Minor Options

  • Jazz Studies (20 credits), offering students concentrated study in jazz and music courses
  • Music (21 credits), giving students a broad-based background in music. Course work in this option is similar to that taken by students starting work toward a B. A. or B. M. degree in music.
  • Music Performance (20-21 credits), giving students the opportunity for a more concentrated study in voice or on an instrument
  • Individual Music Study (minimum of 18 credits) offers students more flexibility. In this option, students design their minor program under the advisement and sponsorship of a faculty member.
  • Voice Performance for Theatre Majors (18 credits) gives theatre majors the opportunity for more concentrated and focused study in voice and other areas of music.
