Pastor Avery L. Blakeney is a native Washingtonian, a product of the DC Public School system. His journey has not been one that can be described as “from Heaven down”. He has been quoted as describing his journey as “from Hell up”. His life has been one that has led him through “many dangerous toils and snares”. 

At the age of 37, he went back to school and received a degree in Biblical Studies and Pastoral Care. He served as Senior Pastor at Messiah Baptist Church in Nashville, TN until the health of his Mother brought him back to the Washington DC area in 1998.

In 1999, he organized Lighthouse Ministries, a non-denominational, bible-based word centering inner-city congregation whose targeted population was the least, the lost and the left behind of our city.

His passion is for persons caught in the grip of addiction, struggling to overcome the pain of the past or the challenge of piecing together a life that has been broken by the plight of what it means to “walk upright in a crooked world”. Pastor Blakeney honestly believes that there is “no one so lost that they can’t be found, so low they can’t be lifted or so soiled they can’t be saved”. – From Lighthouse Ministries
