RN to BS on-campusThe RN to BS on campus program is offered in conjunction with the Office of Strategic initiatives. Partnering with clinical agencies the College of Nursing and Office of Strategic initiatives develops cohorts of nurses identified by their agency who will move through the academic program together. This successful partnership keeps the practicing RN in mind while working with agencies for workforce development.  

The RN to B.S. program is designed for registered nurses with an Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing who wish to complete their baccalaureate degree. The credit requirement for graduation is 120, nursing courses are specifically designed for RNs and the opportunity to take graduate level courses in nursing or related disciplines in partial fulfillment of the BS degree requirements is provided. Nurses also have the option of earning the B.S. online.

  • Personal, Professional, and Leadership Development: Foster nursing wellness and exemplary care by applying self-care principles, embracing a spirit of inquiry, and cultivating an ethical nursing identity through self-reflection and feedback.

Admission

All transfer students should refer to the University of Rhode Island admission website for specific admission requirements. If you attended the University of Rhode Island as a degree seeking student in the past you must apply for readmission.

Readmission Requirements:

  • Associates Degree or Diploma in Nursing
  • 2.6 GPA
  • Copy of nursing license
  • Readmission form
  • Personal Statement (Why Nursing at URI?, What experiences have you had post URI?, What makes you a strong candidate?)
  • Official Transcript
  • Please specify if you are applying for readmission into the on campus or accelerated online program. Please note the online program runs in 7-week courses cycles.
  • Students will not be allowed to combine on campus and online course curriculum.

Curriculum

The RN to BS program requires 120 credits for graduation. Credits from other accredited colleges are accepted; however the student must complete at least 30 credits at URI in order to earn the B.S. degree in nursing. Students can transfer up to 75 credits at the associates level and 15 credits at the baccalaureate level for a potential total of 90 transfer credits. A grade of C or better is required in all starred (*) courses (see curriculum sheet below). A minimum 2.2GPA is required to progress through the program and to graduate.
