Biography
Dr. Ann Marie Moraitis is a PhD prepared nurse scientist and a master’s prepared clinical exercise physiologist. Her overarching research focus is the provision of digital support for health promotion and symptom mitigation in underserved cancer communities. Her research approach is transdisciplinary and builds on formative experiences in clinical nursing care in pediatric intensive care, outpatient and community settings. Her Masters-level preparation health promotion training as a clinical exercise physiologist provided her with extensive clinical training to understand the role of physical activity across various acute care and rehabilitation settings, including cardiopulmonary, metabolic settings and Livestrong at the Y.
Dr. Moraitis received her PhD in Nursing Science under the primary mentorship of Dr. Rae Walker. She completed a NIH funded T32 postdoctoral training in Cancer, Caregiving and End-of Life, at the University of Utah, under the primary mentorship of Dr. Kathi Mooney. Here she gained expertise in optimizing health promotion interventions, and cancer care delivery systems using technology. Additional training includes valuable research skills and collaborations she developed as a selected participant in Harvard’s Research Methods in Supportive Oncology workshop, and Yale’s Transdisciplinary Research in Energetics and Cancer Research (TREC) fellowship. These opportunities have fostered transdisciplinary clinical research partners to enhance her research in cancer energetics.
Currently, she is the co-chair of the Oncology Nursing Scientist Research Collaborative (Co-Chair) and an invited committee member of the International Late Effects of Childhood Cancer Guideline Harmonization Group (health promotion, physical activity guideline). She is also a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology, Journal of Cancer Survivorship, Research in Nursing and Health and BMC Cancer.
Research
Her primary research interest is in intervention co-design and implementation of digitally delivered physical activity support for youth throughout the cancer care continuum to decrease symptom burden, optimize quality of life, and long-term health outcomes.
