Thaís São-João, PhD, MSN, RN

Biography

Dr. Thaís São-João is an Assistant Professor and nurse researcher focusing on health-related behavior change. Her clinical background is in the health of adults and older adults. In Brazil, she received grants from the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp) as a Tenured Professor.

Dr. São-João is experienced in studies aimed at designing, implementing and assessing nurse-driven interventions and randomized, controlled intervention studies in clinical settings. She has expertise in research design and methods and in cultural adaptation and validation studies, with a focus on people with noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular conditions, diabetes, and obesity.

Currently, she is the Principal Investigator on a study about the cardiometabolic health of RI commercial fishermen, supported by Institutional Development Award Number U54GM115677 from the NIGMS-NIH, which funds Brown Advance Clinical and Translational Research (Advance-CTR).

Dr. São-João is affiliated as a Collaborating Professor (in-kind) with the School of Nursing at Unicamp, Brazil. She is a member of the Society of Cardiology of the State of São Paulo (Socesp), Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society for Nursing, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, and the International Behavioral Trials Network (IBTN).
