Reflections on the B.S.P.S. Program

Jillian Chase graduated this May as our first ever B.S.P.S. major. The following are her reflections on our newest program.

“With graduation just behind me I am both excited and anxious to enter the workforce, as most seniors are. I truly feel that the B.S.P.S. program has provided me a strong knowledge foundation in the pharmaceutical sciences and has prepared me for my next step: breaching the path from student to scientist. I look forward to the challenges of industry and gaining experience working for a pharmaceutical company in the time between finishing my bachelor’s degree and working towards a PhD.
The B.S.P.S. program could not have been a better fit for me, as I have always had a strong interest in scientific research, particularly in the area of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. Having completed the rigorous coursework, I am walking away with a vast knowledge of various areas of the pharmaceutical industry, I am eager to put this knowledge to use and I have developed strong connections with aspiring scientists (my peers) and established scientists (my professors). The lab experience has taught me that science is never black and white, it can be frustrating at times and often requires a great deal of patience, however, with perseverance and dedication can provide great insight into the unknown. As bittersweet as graduating was, I look forward to my next set of challenges.”
