All students, faculty and staff members welcome to get a free flu shot

URI College of Pharmacy students will help their fellow students, along with faculty and staff members, stay healthy this season while gaining some valuable practical experience.

The students have scheduled a flu shot clinic in the lobby of Avedisian Hall on Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All members of the URI community — 19 years of age or older — are welcome to get a free flu shot administered by one of three sixth-year pharmacy students and a graduate student, led by Virginia Lemay, clinical associate professor of pharmacy. Those wishing to get a shot must present their health insurance ID card and fill out a screening form.

RiteAid Pharmacy will provide the vaccines at no cost to anyone with insurance. It is the seventh year the College of Pharmacy has hosted the clinic, vaccinating about 150-200 students, faculty and staff members each year. Lemay said it is a way to help advance public health and “students get valuable experience using their immunization skills.”

The College of Pharmacy — part of the Academic Health Collaborative along with the Colleges of Health Sciences and Nursing — is housed in Avedisian Hall, 7 Greenhouse Road.
