Champlin Foundations awards URI three grants for technology to support teaching and research

The Champlin Foundations have awarded the University of Rhode Island three grants totaling $421,795 to purchase high-tech equipment to advance education and student learning. The three grants will fund new teaching and research tools for in-vitro testing of pharmaceuticals, advanced characterization of powders, and imaging of nanoscale materials and processes.

College exceeds national marks in several categories

URI’s Pharm.D. grads achieved a 99 percent pass rate on the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination, according to a 2014 report by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. The 2013 pass rate was four points higher than the national average and placed URI’s College of Pharmacy in a tie for first in New England with the University of Connecticut’s pharmacy school.

Alex and Ani donates $1 million to URI to support natural product research

Alex and Ani Gift to URI

A new $1-million donation to the University of Rhode Island from Alex and Ani, LLC will support natural product research and the discovery of plant-based molecules to improve human well-being. In recognition of the generous gift, the University will name a research lab in the College of Pharmacy building the Alex and Ani Impact Lab.

Pharmacy Professor selected to lead network of palliative care professionals

Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy Jayne Pawasauskas has been helping her patients manage their pain for more than a decade. With 15 years of clinical practice, research, and network building under her belt, Pawasauskas was recently named chair-elect of the Pain and Palliative Care Practice and Research Network of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.

Ben Barlock ’15

URI has provided me with a huge number of learning opportunities to help prepare me for the future. The electives we can take in the B.SP.S. program are extremely interesting, and being able to work with different professors in the lab has been really helpful. I have gained so much knowledge that I know would not have been possible if I had gone to any other school.

Lanh Dang ’14

When I started looking into pharmacy, I liked how many different tracks a pharmacist can take. A pharmacist can work in the community, in a hospital, run a clinic with a medical team, do research, become a professor, etc. The possibilities are endless and always changing. I like the flexibility and options for pharmacy.
