Biography

Dr. Alissa Scalise is a board-certified clinical pharmacist specializing in central nervous system pharmacotherapy. She earned her PharmD from Western New England University and completed PGY1 and PGY2 residencies at the Providence VA Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

She currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Rhode Island and practices at the Providence VA, focusing on mental health, migraine, neuropathic pain, and interdisciplinary care for ALS/SCI and movement disorders.

Her professional experience within the Veterans Health Administration since 2018 spans a variety of subspecialty services, including anticoagulation management, internal medicine, inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, pain management, and neurology. She has led institutional quality improvement initiatives and played a key role in expanding access to care for Veterans.

As the VA’s Pain Management, Opioid Safety, and PDMP Facility Coordinator, she advanced safe prescribing practices and subsequently delivered telehealth care through the TelePain and TeleHeadache programs for VISN1, highlighting her leadership in population health and pharmacist integration within telehealth teams.

In her academic role, she will deliver didactic content in psychiatry and neurology within the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum and actively contributes to interprofessional education at her practice site.

She is an engaged member of the American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists (AAPP) and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), and serves on the National Headache Center of Excellence Clinical Pharmacy Council (HCoE) within the VA.
