We’re celebrating 10 years of beautiful student art featured on the President’s annual holiday cards!
Each year, URI students submit their artwork for consideration — photos, illustrations, paintings, multimedia, etc. — and the artist whose piece is chosen for the president’s card by Dave and Lynn Baker-Dooley receives $500. The second-place winner, selected by Jeannette E. Riley, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, receives $250; their artwork is featured on the arts and sciences holiday card.
The winners’ artwork is seen by thousands of professionals nationwide. Deadline for art submissions is usually in late October, but students are encouraged to consider their submissions for the next contest whenever the mood strikes.

Here’s a look back at the last 10 years of cards, and the artists who submitted their work:
2019: Lindsey Corse ’21, Cumberland, R.I.
Lindsey is pursuing a degree in landscape architecture, and minoring in sustainability and community planning. For this piece, she used a daytime image of Roosevelt Hall as a base and manipulated the photo using Adobe Photoshop — digitally drawing in snow, snowman, and lighting — to create a peaceful winter night scene. Lindsey likened the process to the perspective renderings she creates for landscape architecture project proposals, using a combination of hand-drawing and photo manipulation.
2018: Alessandra Antonelli B.F.A. ’19, Jamestown, R.I.
Alessandra is pursuing a bachelor of fine arts in studio art. For this piece, she used a variety of different media and combined them digitally, including watercolor wash and overlaid Photoshop brush work to create texture.
2017: Joanne Liu ’20, an art major from Westerly, R.I.
2016: Laura Michaud ’17, an English and art major from Scituate, R.I.
