Strategies and Tools for Teaching at URI

Tuesday, August 13 – Thursday, August 15
9am – 12:30pm
Sessions will be held on Zoom and Brightspace

Strategies and Tools is for you if you are new to URI and would like to implement teaching strategies geared toward fostering equity, diversity, and inclusive teaching. We will discuss strategies to align your assignments with your course’s learning outcomes and explore ways to help your students build the skills they need to perform well on key assignments. We will also build practical skills in using digital tools to support your teaching. Finally, you will become acquainted with some of the key offices and people at URI who can help support your teaching and professional growth at URI.

Tech Day: Tools and Technology for Evaluating Learning

9:15am – 4pm

Information Technology Services hosts an annual ed tech day for faculty, with multiple tracks and virtual sessions centered on a new theme each year. Both URI educational technology support staff and faculty present use case studies, best practices, ideas, solutions, technology curriculum design, and emerging educational technology innovations. Tech Day participants may pick and choose sessions of interest to take technology enhanced learning to the next level.

Rhody Ed Tech Essentials for New Faculty

Tech Day for New Faculty offers a workshop for new faculty on technology access, help, support, and educational technologies and software at URI. The session provides an introduction to Brightspace, Panopto and other educational technologies at URI.

University Libraries New Faculty Orientation

The University of Rhode Island Libraries utilize the newest technologies to ensure optimum access to, and delivery of, information for the University and State of Rhode Island. As partners in the teaching, research, and service missions of the University, the Libraries acquire, organize, and preserve materials in all formats and provide instruction in their use. Additional resources include our institutional repository, makerspace, Interlibrary Loan, and membership in the Boston Library Consortium. This session will provide an introduction to our services and answer your specific questions. Presented by Amanda Izenstark, Reference & Instructional Design Librarian.

Division of Research New Faculty Orientation

The Division of Research orientation is an opportunity for new faculty to take part in an overview of the research enterprise at the University of Rhode Island. Faculty will meet the staff who assist researchers throughout the grant process. The orientation will include information on finding funding, writing competitive proposals, preparing proposals, budgets, managing awards, addressing human and animal subject research, protecting and commercializing intellectual property, and public relations related to research programs.


Writing Across URI offers writing retreats, support for faculty writers, consultations on designing effective writing assignments, and support for integrating Eli Review in any course.
