Metered Mail
URI Mail Services uses updated Pitney Bowes machines to meter mail, which qualifies for postage discounts. For bulk mailings of letter-sized envelopes, ensure items are properly nested with flaps closed for efficient machine processing.
Interoffice Mail
Interoffice mail delivery:
- Kingston Campus: Daily service to all departments
- Narragansett Bay Campus: Mail is retrieved from the Mail Room on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Marketing Mail (Bulk Mail)
USPS Marketing Mail is available to all University of Rhode Island (URI) departments for sending mail at standard, nonprofit rates. All mailings must contain a minimum of 200 pieces and adhere to specific USPS guidelines. More information is available on the official USPS Marketing Mail website using the link provided.
The University Bulk Indicia is managed and coordinated by URI Printing Services. Please contact Printing Services directly for details on its use and requirements.
Business Reply Mail
Our Business Reply Mail (BRM) permit can be used to distribute business reply cards, envelopes, self-mailers, cartons, and labels.
This service allows the University to receive First-Class Mail and Priority Mail back from customers. The postage cost, plus a small per-piece handling charge, is only applied to the mail that is returned.
Please contact URI Mail Services for additional information and coordination
Addressing Mail
URI Mail Services, in coordination with URI Printing Services, can address mail pieces directly or imprint addresses on labels for First-Class Mail or USPS Marketing Mail (bulk mail).
Address lists must be provided as an Excel spreadsheet and will be reviewed upon submission.
Please contact Printing Services for more information regarding list requirements and scheduling.
Express Mail
Express shipping for documents can be processed through URI Mail Services. Shipments must be dropped off by 1:00 p.m. to be sent out the same day.
All shipments must include an attached mail card containing an email address for tracking information and the requested shipping speed (e.g., overnight, priority or 2-day shipping, with AM or PM delivery).
International Mail
USPS International flats (less than 3/4″ thick) and letter mail do not require a USPS customs form. International shipping through FedEx also does not require a customs form but does necessitate a recipient phone number and email address for tracking purposes.
USPS International Priority or Express Mail requires a 3-part PS Form 2976-R customs form. URI Mail Services can send this form via interoffice mail upon the department’s request.
