The Rhode Island Water Resources Center is one of the 54 Water Resources Research Institutes located at the land-grant university in each state, the District of Columbia, and three U.S. territories. Created by Congress through the Water Resources Research Act of 1984 and administrated by the U.S. Geological Survey.
Changes in climate patterns, emerging contaminants of concerns, social and economic changes are putting pressure on our local, regional, and global water resources. To solve this complex problem, participation from a diverse pool of stakeholders is needed.
The RIWRC serves academic institutions, researchers, K-12 institutions, state agencies, non-profit organizations, water utilities, water industry, and professional organizations.

The Rhode Island Water Resources Center encourages proposals from principal investigators from underrepresented or underserved groups and institutions (e.g., Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Minority Serving Institutions, Tribal Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions, and community colleges). Additionally, proposals with a strong component of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, which intersect with water research and those addressing issues in historically marginalized or underserved communities are highly encouraged.

The RIWRC is the catalyst for water resources innovation for Rhode Island in terms of technology, management, education, and communications.

Mission
Promote and disseminate technological, scientific, outreach, and educational innovations to protect the state’s water resources and infrastructure for our residents and the environment.
