SSIREP Field to Table: Substance Use in an Understudied Population: Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) Individuals in the U.S.

Join Dr. Ceren Gunsoy (Psychology) as she discusses how substance use disproportionately affects minority groups in the United States, specifically individuals from Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) backgrounds. Due to their categorization as white in the U.S. Census and other federal forms, their unique health needs are invisible and inconsistent with their experiences in the U.S., as they have been targets of prejudice and hate crimes. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, the present research investigates the factors associated with substance use among MENA individuals, such as cultural values, perceived discrimination, and mental health. This event will take place in Memorial Union Room 318 on April 25th from 12 to 1PM.
