Instructor: Thomas, Kierstan Bailey
This course explores how intimacy, love, sex, and relationships are shaped by gender, race, sexuality, power, and social institutions. Rather than treating intimacy as purely private, we examine how structural forces—such as patriarchy, white supremacy, capitalism, heteronormativity, fatphobia, and ableism—shape desirability and belonging. Drawing on feminist, queer, and trans scholarship, we consider consent, kinship, pleasure, sexual violence, digital intimacy, sex work, and alternative relationship models.
