Financial Aid

Summer Pell Grants

If you are a matriculating URI student, you may be eligible to have your URI Summer tuition and fees fully or partially covered by your Pell Grant. This requires enrolling for six URI Summer credits.

We advise any student who has questions about Pell Grant funding for this summer to make a Financial Aid Counseling appointment via Starfish as soon as possible. If you have immediate questions about your Pell Grant, please enter the URI Enrollment Services Virtual Lobby for the fastest possible assistance. The virtual lobby is open Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm.

Other Financial Aid

If you are a matriculating URI student registered for six or more credits for the 2023 URI Summer Sessions, you may be eligible for Federal Direct Loans to help fund your studies. Once you are officially registered for six or more credits on e-Campus for this summer, complete the Summer 2023 Direct Loan Application.

If needed, students can always set up a Webex appointment or a phone appointment for URI Financial Aid Counseling through Starfish. If you have immediate questions about your Pell Grant, please enter the URI Enrollment Services Virtual Lobby for the fastest possible assistance. The virtual lobby is open Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm.

Note: In order to receive financial aid, you must complete a Free Application for Student Financial Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at studentaid.gov.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

Federal regulations require all institutions that administer Title IV student financial aid programs to monitor the academic progress toward a degree or certificate of students applying for funds. All University of Rhode Island students enrolled for Summer Sessions who have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and wish to be considered for Title IV federal aid as well as selected other types of assistance must meet the criteria stated in the policy. Financial aid recipients will be reviewed for satisfactory progress at the end of the Spring semester after grades are posted. This review is separate from and in addition to the academic standing review performed at the college level. A student who does not meet the satisfactory academic progress standards will lose their financial aid eligibility for the next academic semester. This ineligibility will include the Summer Session even if the student has prior enrollment in the summer term. For complete information regarding SAP standards, appeal processes, and implications for financial aid eligibility, please visit the URI Enrollment Services website.

The University of Rhode Island is a state-supported agency; therefore, tuition and fees are subject to change at any time by the action of the Board of Governors for Higher Education.
