Independent or Directed Study

Directed Study Form

Students seeking to earn academic credit this summer for a directed study, independent study, special project, thesis, dissertation, or most non-ITR internships must complete and submit a Summer Directed Study Form to directedstudies@etal.uri.edu. For Summer Sessions, these sections are registration by permission number only in e-Campus. The Summer Sessions Office will process these forms, work with Enrollment Services to create sections in e-Campus as necessary, and issue permission numbers to students. These forms will be processed through the conclusion of the add period for each of the three summer sessions. Please see the URI Summer Calendar for relevant deadlines. It is the responsibility of students to ensure that, upon receipt of a permission number, registration is completed in e-Campus with the proper number of credits (units) selected. Instructors should check their roster in e-Campus at the start of the summer session to verify that the proper number of credits has been selected. 

To request an independent or directed study section for URI Summer Sessions, download and complete the Summer Sessions Directed Study Form. Before you begin, be sure your e-Campus account does not have any registration holds against it. Students will not be able to register for URI Summer courses until all such holds have been removed.

Students must have a URI faculty or staff member agree to oversee a directed study section. Students are responsible for completing section 1 of this form. Once section 1 is completed, please submit it to the instructor for the course. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email directedstudies@etal.uri.edu.

Registration for URI Summer Sessions via this form is billed at the standard URI Summer Tuition rates. Additional fees may apply.
